Mr. Virgil D. Puffenberger, 85, departed this life on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at Pendleton Manor in Franklin, WV. He was born March 25, 1926 at Fort Seybert, WV and was the son of the late George Leslie and Ressie Lee Puffenbarger. A graduate of Franklin High School, he received a B.S. degree from Shepherd College and an M.A. degree from George Washington University. Virgil was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the Navy on the Phillipine Island. He was a member of the Franklin Ruritan Club and the Bethlehem Church of the Brethren, where he taught Sunday School for several years. Much of his life was devoted to working in the education field. He was a Teacher and Guidance Counselor in Maryland for 20 years. In 1974, Mr. Puffenberger came home to Pendleton County and served as Principal at Franklin High School. Before his retirement in 1981, he served as Assistant Superintendent of Pendleton County Schools for four years. After retiring, he worked as a substitute teacher in Pendleton, Grant and Hardy County for several years. On March 30, 1960, he married the former Betty Sue Tolliver, who preceded him in death on July 3, 2004. He is survived by - Two sons - Gregory K. Puffenberger and his wife, Tammy of Hagerstown, MD Kevin E. Puffenberger and his wife, Heather of Upper Tract, WV Three grandchildren - Tyler Matthew Puffenberger Ashlyn Grace Puffenberger Kole Jacob Puffenberger Two brothers - Carl Puffenbarger of Forest Heights, MD Ona Puffenbarger and his wife, Barbara of Fort Seybert, WV Two sisters - Barbara Barker and her husband, John of Christiansburg, VA Edith Winegard and her husband, Shirldon of Roanoke, VA He was preceded in death by - Three brothers - Irvin Puffenbarger, Dewey Puffenbarger and Bruce Puffenbarger One sister - Goldie Puffenbarger And one grandson - Kyle Hunter Puffenberger Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin, WV with Pastors Glenn Sites and Richard Boggs officating. Burial will be at the Puffenbarger Cemetery at Fort Seybert with military graveside services conducted by members of the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard. Michael Puffenbarger, Steve Puffenbarger, Kent Puffenbarger, Doug Puffenbarger, Tyler Puffenberger and Kole Puffenberger will serve as his pallbearers.
