Stanna Louise Smith, 84, of Upper Tract, West Virginia departed this life for her heavenly home on Friday, May 10, 2024 while a resident at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.

She was born February 13, 1940 at Franklin and was the daughter of the late Russell Burton Propst and Verna Hammer Propst.

She was valedictorian of the Franklin High School Class of 1958.  After graduation, she and her good friend, Linda Hammer Hoover, worked at the FBI as file clerks in Washington, D.C.  Stanna returned home to be the secretary at the Pendleton County Board of Education.  On September 10, 1961, she married Samuel J. Smith, and while residing in Morgantown, did clerical work at WVU.  After her two young children became school age, Stanna started work at the Pendleton County Bank.  She retired from the Grant County Bank in 1997 after 19 years as a loan officer.

She was a member of Mt. Hope Lutheran Church, serving as secretary and a Sunday school teacher for many years.  She loved cooking, baking, gardening, and researching family history.

One granddaughter -

Rachel Parsons, and husband, Jeremiah of Parkersburg, WV

A brother-in-law –

Ronald "Ron" Gilkeson of Dayton, VA

And several nieces and nephews

Preceding her in death were a sister, Velda Jean Gilkeson, and a nephew, Lance Gilkeson.

Friends may call at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin after 10:00 AM Sunday, May 12, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Sunday.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, May 13 at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church with Pastors Paul and Sherri Schafer officiating.

Interment will be at Cherry Hill Cemetery at Upper Tract.
