Shirley Arleen (Wable) Vance, age 75, of Seneca Rocks, WV went home with her Lord on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 with her loving family by her side at Hospice Care in Elkins, West Virginia. Born Sunday, February 14, 1937 in Fort Hill, PA, she was the daughter of the late Analda (Jack) Wable of Markleysburg, PA and the late Ethel (Firestone) Wable of Meyersdale, PA. Shirley was retired after 26 years of service at Deer Creek Clinic, Green Bank, WV as a receptionist/medical coder. She was blessed with 41 years of dedicated marriage to her loving husband, Richard (Dick) H. Vance of Seneca Rocks, WV. Her love for flowers has always been known by the gardens around her home(s) where neighbors knew her passion for plum colored impatiens. Many hours were spent poring over flower and bulb catalogs to see what "new" plants were available. Shirley's love for reading was also known, sharing/swapping books with her close friends. She loved crocheting and had welcomed many new babies into the world with their very own afghan. She loved canning and "putting up peaches" for the freezer every winter. Shirley kept in touch with family via computer e-mails and facebook activity. Memories re-visited were Caribbean cruises, trips to Branson, MO and those special vacations to Florida. Many reunions with loving family members were at the top of Shirley's fond memories where she will be remembered for her wonderful macaroni salad, homemade bread and golden pound cake. Besides her husband, Shirley is survived by two sisters, Margaret M. (Wable) Crawford-Carr of Dunbar, PA and Sarah J. (Wable) Artice of Meyersdale, PA. Shirley always had such a tender heart for children. While having no children of her own, she helped raise and care for her niece/daughter, Robin (Crawford) Hair of Dunbar, PA. Robin was at her side throughout her lifetime, gladly sharing her family with her "Aunt Shirl". Aunt Shirl was considered "Grandma" to Robin and her husband, Daniel's three children, Dale and wife, Janice Hair of Fort Hill, PA, Brian and wife, Monica Hair of Clarksburg, TN and Dayna and husband, Jack Maloy of Dunbar, PA; and "great-grandma" to eight great-grandchildren, David Allen, Jacob, Abbigail, Evan, Ava and Aiden Hair, Riley and Jack Maloy. "Aunt Shirl" had many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Close nieces were Carol (Fike) Umbel of Friendsville, MD and Shirley (Durst) Brinson of Havelock, NC. Very close family were Nancy and Merle Webley of Seneca Rocks, WV; Karen and Nathan Cooper of Kingwood, WV; Bryan and Deborah Webley and children, Spencer and Colleen; Brennon and Crissy Webley and children, Scotty and Morgan; Shawn and Maggie Cooper and children, Malia and Sydney of Elkins, WV and Melissa Cooper of Morgantown, WV. Shirley leaves behind many, many dear loving friends. Special lifetime friends are Rosie and Thurman Gerber of Coshocton, Ohio; Angel and Kevin Roy of Seneca Rocks, WV; Michele and Travis Eye and children, Donna and Frank Eye of Harman, WV; Joyce Williams of Orrville, OH and close friend, Patsy Hedrick of Seneca Rocks, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Alice (Wable) Durst, Berdella (Wable) Fike and Virginia Wable; a close nephew, Michael Durst and a dear friend, Becky Buzzerd. By request of the family, no viewing or visitation will be held.
