Ruth S. Vogel, 78, of Franklin, West Virginia went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at her home.

She was born September 16, 1942 at Charleston, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late John Edwin Starr and Eva Virginia Leach Starr.

Ruth asked Jack Vogel, who was the captain of their high school football team, out on a date.  They dated during high school and college and married on January 25, 1964.  Ruth was a 1964 graduate of Marshall University, where she was a member of Delta Zeta. Her first teaching job was fourth grade in Newark, Ohio.  She also taught school in Maryland. When Jack began his ministry in the 1970s, the young couple lived in Charleston, West Virginia, and in 1982, the ministry brought them to Pendleton County.  They both fell in love with this area and the people. Ruth taught school at both Franklin Elementary and Brandywine Elementary.  She was a dedicated educator for thirty-six years before her retirement.

Over the years, she shared her love of music as she sang in the Pendleton Community Choir and local church choirs, and played the piano for many worship services.  She attended the Franklin Church of God, where she spearheaded Project Operation Christmas Child each year. With her beautiful smile and her gentle, quiet voice, she spent her life nurturing others and sharing with them her genuine faith in God.  After retirement, Ruth enjoyed lunches at the Senior Center in Franklin and monthly outings with her retired teacher friends, the Fab Five.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her son, John David Vogel (1969 – 2016).

Her husband of 57 years, Jack Vogel;

Dear friends who Ruth and Jack loved and considered to be part of their family, Brad and Jo Lynn Mitchell of Franklin;

And Brad and Jo Lynn's daughters, Sarah Mitchell, Alisha (& Blake) Linehan, Kristen (& Steven) Barnett and Rachel Mitchell.

Friends will be received from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, August 20 at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 21 in the funeral home chapel with Pastors Brad Mitchell and Rob Borror officiating.

Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.  Ryan Borror, Trent Borror, Tyler Borror, David Paugh, Albert Hammer, Randy Ruddle and Logan Propst will serve as her pallbearers.
