Mr. Roosevelt "Rosey" Turner, 84, of Franklin and formerly of Seneca Rocks, WV died Sunday, March 4, 2012 at the home of his companion, Mary Mitchell. He was born September 11, 1927 at Onego, West Virginia and was the son of the late Ted (September 1997) and Zona Mae Davis Turner (April 8, 2008). Mr. Turner attended the one and two room schools in Pendleton County, worked on farms and in the woods, before serving his country in the United States Army from September 30, 1949 to December 20, 1952. He served in Korea, was missing in action and an assumed prisoner of war, and received the Purple Heart and other medals. After his discharge from the Army, Mr. Turner went to Ohio where he worked five years at Youngstown Kitchen Cabinet. He retired after working 30 years at Republic Steel in Warren, Ohio. Rosey was a member of VFW Post #3647 of Elkins, the American Legion Post #0078 of Petersburg, the United Steel Workers Association, the NRA and the Onego Church of the Brethren. He loved to hunt, fish, dig ginseng and ramps, and ride his four-wheeler to feed the birds, squirrels and deer in the winter. Mr. Turner was twice married, first to Alice Hise Turner, then to Betty Mick Turner, who preceded him in death on February 3, 1998. He is survived by - One son One step-son One step-daughter One sister - Dorothy Warner and husband, Jim of Seneca Rocks, WV Four brothers - Lester (Joe) Turner and wife, Mary of Seneca Rocks, WV Bruce (Pete) Turner and wife, Helen of Cabins, WV Ivan (Buck) Turner and wife, Carolyn of Cabins, WV Sonny (Jake) Turner and wife, Nancy of Bloomery, WV Two aunts - Effie Davis George of Harrisonburg, VA Lara Turner Long of Maysville, WV One grandson Four step-grandchildren Several nieces, nephews and cousins He was preceded in death by one brother, Herman and wife, Evelyn and several nephews, nieces, cousins, uncles and aunts. The family will receive friends at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin on Thursday, March 8 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 9 at the Onego Church of the Brethren with Pastors Charles (Dusty) Twigg and Greg Adamson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM Friday until the service hour at 11:00. Burial will be at the Turner Family Cemetery at Onego with full military graveside rites conducted by members of the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.
