Melvin Kenneth Householder, 97, of Paw Paw, West Virginia passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at the Berkeley Springs Center in Berkeley Springs, WV, where he had resided since 2013.

He was born August 19, 1919 at Sleepy Creek, WV and was the son of the late Harley and Rosetta Wolfel Householder.

He attended Spohrs Crossroads School in Morgan County.  Melvin worked at the Tannery until it closed in 1950.  He was a self-taught brick mason and one of the best around the area.  After working to help build the Paw Paw High School, he became employed by the Morgan County Board of Education at the Paw Paw School, retiring in 1977.  His many hobbies and pastimes included gardening, canning, hunting, trapping and fishing, of which turkey hunting was his absolute favorite. Melvin was a member of the Paw Paw United Methodist Church.

He married his wife of 31 years, Elizabeth Eleanor Parker Householder on August 18, 1941.  She preceded him in death on August 13, 1972.

Eight grandchildren –
Perry Householder, Kelly Adams, Melissa Shirley, Vicki Householder, David C. Shade, II, Penny Porter, Jordan Householder and Katie Wells

Fourteen great-grandchildren –
Gina Bradshaw, Daniel Adams, Matthew Adams, Jennifer Thorne, Andrew Teter, Jonathan Shirley, Brook Shell, Jacob C. Shade, Caleigh Shade, Ella Shade, Paige Porter, Phoebe Porter, Charlotte Wells and Amber Ross

Six great-great-grandchildren – Cayleigh Bradshaw, Sara Thorne, Jackson Thorne, Addison Ross, Lydia Ross and Sofia Ross

Special nephews –

Lloyd and Floyd Beddow of Berkeley Springs, WV

And many special friends in Paw Paw, especially Crystal, Frankie and Elizabeth Henderson.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, John "Elwood" Householder and wife, Eileen; Elmer "Bert" Householder and wife, Thelma and two sisters, Opal Johnson and husband, Garvin; and Pearl Beddow.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Kimble Funeral Home, 188 Moser Avenue, Paw Paw, WV.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Paw Paw United Methodist Church with Rev. Darlene Powers officiating

Interment will be at Woodrow Cemetery at Paw Paw.
