Mattie Ruth Simmons, 96, of Hughesville, Maryland and formerly of Franklin, West Virginia, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at RMH Sentara Hospital in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She was born August 25, 1919 and was the daughter of the late Charlie Sponaugle and Leana Frances Lambert Sponaugle. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Minor Simmons on August 11, 1990; one brother, Fred O. Sponaugle and three sisters, Bonnie Ralston, Lillian Mays and Maxine Myers. Surviving are - Three sons - Robert L. Sponaugle and his wife, Kathleen of Hughesville, Maryland Daniel Wayne Simmons and his wife, Becky of Summerville, South Carolina Joe Reed Simmons and his wife, Janet of Chinquapin, North Carolina One sister - Stella Collins of Norfolk, Virginia Seven grandchildren Twelve great-grandchildren And one great-great-grandson Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 5, 2015 in the Chapel of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin with Bishop Jay Hartman officiating. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin. The family will receive friends at Kimble Funeral Home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 noon.
