Mary Phillis Ruddle Murphy, 92, of Franklin, WV, departed this life on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 at Pendleton Manor in Franklin. She was born August 23, 1916 in Franklin and was a daughter of the late Phil Ruddle and Stella Warner Ruddle. Mrs. Murphy was a lifelong member of the Franklin Presbyterian Church, where she had been active in the Women of the Church. In previous years, she was a mail carrier for the Deer Run and Smith Creek communities. Her husband, Dick Byron Murphy, a well known coach and teacher at Brandywine Grade School for over thirty years, preceded her in death on May 13, 1963. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Orland R. Dorsey, and two infant sisters. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a great-great niece. Friends will be received at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2009. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, February 23, 2009 at the Franklin Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin Hand officiating. Interment will be at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.
