Luther Junior "John" Helmick, 81, of Brandywine, West Virginia and formerly of Burlington, West Virginia died Saturday, January 4, 2014 as the result of an automobile accident on Rt. 21 near Brandywine. He was born May 5, 1932 at Upper Tract, WV and was the son of the late Luther Helmick and Lena Mae Pennington Helmick. He had worked at Midway Charcoal in Barbour County and at Kessel Lumber in Keyser. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and attended Brandywine Christian Church. Preceding him in death were his wife, Icie L. Wilson Helmick, who died January 28, 2005, four brothers - Howard, Albert, Paul and Richard and seven sisters - Mable Helmick, Mary Helmick, Lydia Kesner, Ella Mae Smith, Ruth Helmick, Anna Lea Helmick and Betty Jo Helmick. Surviving are - Two daughters - Judy Dolly and her husband, Roll of Martin, WV Jenny Evans and her husband, Herman of Burlington, WV Two sons - Luther Randall Helmick and his wife, Lori of Moatsville, WV Danny Lee Helmick and his special friend, Sharon Huffman of Keyser, WV One brother - James R. "Jim" Helmick of Brandywine, WV Eleven grandchildren And seventeen great-grandchildren Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Knobley Church of the Brethren with Pastor Roger Leatherman officiating. Burial will be at Knobley Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the Knobley Church of the Brethren from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM.
