Judy Mae Gordon Propst, 76, of Sugar Grove, WV went peacefully to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 17, 2021 while a patient at Sentara RMH following prolonged health issues.

A woman with remarkable spirit and fortitude, Judy was the third of four children born to the late Vernon and Hilda Bennett Gordon on March 24, 1945 on Snowy Mountain Road.  The family moved to a home "up the holler" on Wimer Mountain Road when she was approximately one year old.

Judy attended Franklin Elementary School and graduated from Franklin High School in May 1963.  On April 7, 1966, she married her high school sweetheart, Eston Wayne Propst, at St. John Lutheran Church and they celebrated 55 years together.  Melissa "Missy" Propst Harrison (& Gary) of Sugar Grove, and Daniel Propst (& Debbie) of Franklin were added to the family circle, both of whom survive.

She worked for Dr. Charles Sites (August 1963 – 1968) until Eston's job required their relocation to Fredericksburg, Virginia.  In August of 1980, opportunity provided them to return to Moyers, allowing them to establish permanent residence on their beloved farm in 1984.

In her early years, Judy attended East Dry Run Evangelical Brethren Church.  In 1966, she became a member of St. John Lutheran Church.  Upon her return to the area, she became actively involved with the St. John Women's Group, Vacation Bible School and Sunday School, held multiple offices and readily helped in the church's ministry of making and knotting quilts to share.  With her gift of organizational and planning skills, Judy was an intricate part of the church's call chain and Relay For Life team, and she participated in many special church events, including the coordinating of gifts for residents of Pendleton Manor.  She loved to sing, and as a member of the choir, she participated for many years in providing monthly inspirational music and song entertainment to the Manor residents.

Perhaps it could be best said that Judy had a "green thumb", starting many varieties of tomato plants, which she readily shared with others.  She enjoyed working alongside Eston on the farm, often tending to the farm animals and driving the tractor.  One of her passions was cooking and trying new recipes.  Her joy was to share a variety of food at family gatherings, church functions, and the lawn party, for which the dessert stand benefited and her tasty treats were enjoyed by many.

Although she battled health issues since 1994, she inspired many with her strong will, strengths and philosophy on life.  She was a devoted wife, mother and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Dillon Propst; brother, Rodger Lee Gordon; grandson, Adrian Simmons and brother-in-law, Ralph Hinkle.

Friends may pay their respects at any time on Monday, June 21, 2021 from 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 22 at St. John Lutheran Church where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday with Pastors Jason and Jess Felici officiating.  Masking will be required out of respect for her husband, Eston's health.

Interment will be at St. John Cemetery.
