John Edgar Jenkins, 95, of Franklin, West Virginia passed away Monday, November 5, 2018 at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.

Born October 9, 1923 at Petersburg, WV, he was the son of the late Willis Jenkins and Edna Sites Jenkins.  John Ed graduated from McDowell High School and Davis and Elkins College.  He was a Veteran, having served in the U.S. Marines.  He taught health and physical education, and coached basketball and baseball in the Virginia school system for thirteen years, and continued his teaching career and coached basketball in the Maryland school system for twenty-three years, before retiring and moving home to Franklin.  John Ed was a member of the Franklin Presbyterian Church, Franklin Lions Club, Sugar Grove V.F.W. Post 9666, and was an avid golfer.

On December 30, 1946, he married Mary Catherine Jenkins, who preceded him in death on February 20, 2013.  His parents and a sister, Guelda Bowers, also predeceased him.

Surviving are –

One daughter-in-law – Becky Jenkins

Two granddaughters –

Amy Moyers (& husband, Brad)

Jennifer Hartwell (& husband, Nathan)

Four great-grandchildren –

Abby Moyers, Ryan Moyers, Jacob Hartwell and Benjamin Hartwell

And one niece and her husband –

Deborah & Phil Hoeper of Silver Spring, MD

The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 PM Friday, November 9, 2018 at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 10 at Franklin Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin Hand officiating.

Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.  Military services will be conducted by members of the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.
