Jerry Lee Shrader, 76, of Middletown VA., peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Shrader was born August 4, 1940 in Sugar Grove, WV and was the son of the late William Russell Shrader and Hattie Arlene Shrader of Franklin WV.

He was a graduate of Franklin High School, Class of 1958.  Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps (U.S.M.C.).  He served his country for over 9 years, including one tour of duty in Vietnam and was honorably discharged on October 3, 1967.  Following this USMC service, he worked for International Business Machines (IBM), in the Washington DC area with a career spanning 32 years from October 1967 until August 1999.  Not one to be tied down at home, he then went to work for Government Employees Insurance Company, better known as GEICO, starting in August 1999 and finally, officially retiring on December 31, 2013.

On August 22, 1961 he married the love of his life, Diana M. Shreve.  They would remain devoted to each other their entire life and had recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Russell Shrader, mother, Hattie Arlene Shrader and brother, Orville Dwight Shrader.

And two great grandchildren.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He was extremely proud of his family and his service in the Marines, which was evident by the great satisfaction he took in flying the American Flag and decorating his home office with all things U.S.M.C.  He was an avid gardener and always had the nicest yard and garden in the community.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM - 12:00 Noon on Thursday, October 27 at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, October 27 in the chapel of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Randy Miller officiating.

Private entombment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery at a later date.
