Jean Mullenax Judy, age 96 of Franklin, WV, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at Sentara RMH is Harrisonburg, VA.

Jean was born October 10, 1929, in Pansy, WV and was the daughter of the late Roland C. Mullenax and Bessie C. (Harman) Mullenax.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Judy, three brothers, Bruce Mullenax, Ernest Mullenax and Carl Mullenax, and a grandson, Travis Judy.

She is survived by –

Kevin Judy, Nicole Wise (Darren), Andrea Judy (Travis Hinkle), Dr. David Judy (Tristen) and Christopher Oakley (Sarah)

Fourteen great-grandchildren –

Carter Judy, Ashlyn Judy, Kadin Moser, Kierstyn Moser, Kinley Hinkle, Amelia Wise, Harrison Wise, Blake Judy, Trey Judy, Kora Judy, Jax Judy, Paige Oakley, Reagan Oakley and Emmett Knox Oakley

Jean attended Mountaindale School in Pansy and Petersburg High School.  Her faith in God started as a child going to church with her parents at St. John's United Methodist Church and later the Upper Tract Presbyterian Church with her five children.

Her first job was being a mother to her children.  She took a job at the sewing factory in Petersburg – the shirts side only!  The family moved to Fairfax in 1964, and she worked for small companies before joining Melpar, working with electronics and learning to solder circuit boards.  Melpar had government contracts, one of which was with NASA and she helped send the first rocket into space.

She enjoyed baking cookies, her favorite fudge, gardening and canning what she grew, quilting and reading romance novels.

She will be laid to rest in Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract.

The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
