Mr. James R. "Jim" Helmick, 87, of Brandywine, West Virginia passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 at University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia as the result of injuries he sustained in an automobile accident on Rt. 21 near Brandywine on Saturday. He was born January 28, 1926 and was the son of the late Luther Helmick and Lena Mae Pennington Helmick. He was a farmer and had retired as Deputy Assessor for Pendleton County. Jim was a faithful member of Brandywine Christian Church. Jim was preceded in death by five brothers - Howard, Albert, Paul, Richard and Luther Junior "John" Helmick and seven sisters - Mable Helmick, Mary Helmick, Lydia Kesner, Ella Mae Smith, Ruth Helmick, Anna Lea Helmick and Betty Jo Helmick. He was also preceded in death by a foster sister, Blanche Harold. Jim was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Brandywine Christian Church with Evangelist Larry Danner and Associate Chris Mills officiating. Burial will be at Cherry Hill Cemetery at Upper Tract, West Virginia. Bobby Bodkin, Bernard Wilfong, Norman Wilfong, Garland Propst, Doug Pitsenbarger and Nathan Parker will serve as his pallbearers. Friends may call at Kimble Funeral Home after 8:00 AM Friday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.
