Jake Teter's Obituary
Jacob Mitchell "Jake" Teter, 85, of Franklin, WV passed away Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 at his home.
He was born Oct. 18, 1931 at Teter Gap and was the son of the late Jacob Mitchell Teter and Bertie Mae Nelson Teter. Jake lost both parents at an early age and was raised by the Whitney Eye family in Deer Run.
Jake worked at the Clete Simmons Sawmill, Sponaugles' Ford Garage and Eye and Craig. He retired from Stanley Hevener's John Deere Dealership. Jake was Methodist by faith.
Well known throughout Pendleton County for never saying "no" when asked, Jake offered his help in situations like the 1985 flood and the blizzard in the 1970s. Jake helped the Town of Franklin, Franklin United Methodist Church and the Pendleton County Courthouse by painting the church steeple and the courthouse and by doing many other painting jobs, as heights did not frighten him.
He often fondly talked about driving cross country with Earl and Mary Hartman to visit John and Nancy Kipp in Minnesota and his trip to Hawaii. He always said "you don't have a pizza until you have had a Hawaiian pizza with pineapple".
Jake definitely knew first-hand what hard work was all about. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and told them many times that hard work never hurt anyone.
Jake had been in failing health for the past eight years.
He is survived by -
His wife of 59 years, Cornelia Etta Hartman Teter, whom he married Dec. 13, 1958
Four daughters -
Sue Bockey (& Barry) of Warsaw, Poland
Sandy Vint (& Joe) of Circleville, WV
Judy Teter of Blue Grass, VA
Jackie Sisson (& Scott Lambert) of Dunmore, WV
Fifteen grandchildren
Thirteen great-grandchildren
A number of nieces and nephews
And his dog and faithful companion, Daisy.
He was preceded in death by -
Two sons - William "Timmy" Teter (1959 - 1988) and James Kennedy "Nick" Teter (1961 - 2009); three sisters, Carol Botkin, Patricia Hartman and Catherine Arbaugh and two brothers, Melvin and Harry. Jake was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017 at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, Sept. 22 in the chapel of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin with Bishop Jay Hartman and Elders David Hartman and Richard Warner officiating.
Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.
Memorials may be made toward funeral expenses, c/o Kimble Funeral Home, P. O. Box 159, Franklin, WV 26807.
