Harold Michael Sponaugle, 82, of Rockingham, VA and formerly of Pendleton County, WV, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 27, 2018.

He was born May 18, 1936 in Circleville, WV and was the son of the late Brison Sponaugle and Judith (Warner) Sponaugle.

On December 31, 1956, he married Patricia Louvon Judy at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oakland, MD.  Harold will be lovingly missed by Patty, who survives.  Patty was always a vibrant part of Harold's life during their almost 62 years together.

He served his country, being inducted on June 17, 1958, and spent the entire time at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina.  After his service in the Army, Harold and Patty moved to Cleveland, Ohio, which was their home for the next 52 years.  Harold retired from Midland Steel after 32 years of service.  He served as a Union Steward for 20 years.  Most of his time was spent working, so he had little time for hobbies.  In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, and in recent years, always loved spending time with his pet chihuahuas, Keno and Koko.  The family moved back to Franklin, WV in 2006, and lived there until their move to Rockingham, VA in early 2012 to be nearer medical facilities for their daughter, Tamara.

Harold was the eldest sibling in his family and is survived by two sisters, Elaine (& Billy) Alt of Youngstown, Ohio, and Jenny Halterman of Circleville, WV, and a foster brother, David (& Debbie) Hite of Austin, Texas.

Their only child, Tamara Jo Sponaugle, age 47, passed away on July 8, 2018.  She anxiously awaits seeing her father in Heaven.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, August 31 at Kimble Funeral Home, 80 South Main Street, Franklin.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 1, 2018 in the chapel of the Kimble Funeral Home with Pastors Richard Forsythe and Sam Harper officiating.

Entombment will be at North Fork Memorial Cemetery at Riverton, West Virginia.
