Mr. Elmer P. Snyder, 99, of Franklin, West Virginia, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Pendleton Manor in Franklin. He was born May 12, 1912 at Sugar Grove, WV and was the son of the late Harry and Elizabeth Jane Puffenbarger Snyder. On October 7, 1934, he married Ina E. Simmons Snyder, who preceded him in death on November 15, 2000. An infant son also preceded him in death. Mr. Snyder was baptized in the Christian faith, and was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church. He was a Sunday School teacher and organist for sixty years. Mr. Snyder was a school teacher for two years, owned and operated the lime company at Sugar Grove, was Deputy Sheriff of Pendleton County for four years, County Road Supervisor for three years and he became a Surveyor and worked for NAGAS, the gas line for the Sugar Grove Navy Base. Mr. and Mrs. Snyder moved to Churchville, VA, where he worked with the Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries for twenty years. In 1985, they moved back to the county and had a home built, which is located next to Pendleton Manor. He continued surveying until just a few years before his death. He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Relatives and friends will be received from 7:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, July 23 at Faith Lutheran Church in Franklin with Pastors Craig and Wendy Richter officiating. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery.
