Donald R. Machamer's Obituary
Mr. Donald Ray Machamer, 83, of Delaplane, VA, and formerly of Paw Paw, WV, passed away Monday, February 15, 2016 at Novant Health Haymarket Medical Center in Haymarket, VA.
Born May 14, 1932 in Newburg, West Virginia, he was one of six children born to the late James E. Machamer and Ila B. Berkebile Machamer.
Don graduated from Newburg High School and joined the United States Air Force in 1951, proudly serving his country during the Korean War in New Mexico and Alaska.
After discharge from the Air Force, he returned to West Virginia to work with his father and brother on the B & O Railroad, where he was a lineman and signal maintainer. His work on the railroad eventually led him to Paw Paw, WV, where he met and married his wife of 54 years, Anna Lee Northcraft Machamer in 1958.
He then attended West Virginia University, studying electrical engineering before returning to the workforce. Don began working at PPG Industries in Cumberland, MD in 1963 and made several notable contributions in the area of glass manufacturing Quality Control. He remained there until his retirement in 1992.
After retiring, Don continued to help the community through his active memberships in the Paw Paw American Legion Post 128, and the South Branch Voiture No. 1538 of the 40 & 8 Veterans organizations, as well as the American Legion statewide organization. Don was good to animals and loved to walk. He was also active in his local church.
Don was preceded in death by his wife in 2013.

He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a proud patriarch of his family.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 PM (the service hour) Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Kimble Funeral Home, 188 Moser Avenue, Paw Paw, West Virginia.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Kimble Funeral Home with the Rev. Leah DeLong officiating.
A graveside service with military honors conducted by the Cumberland American Legion Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard will follow at Camp Hill Cemetery in Paw Paw.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Marshall United Methodist Church, 8405 West Main Street, Marshall, VA with the Rev. Leah DeLong officiating for his many friends whom he got to know while living with his son over the past five years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Harley-Bohrer Post 128, 514 Henry Miller Blvd., Paw Paw, WV 25434 or to Marshall United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 144, Marshall, VA 20144.
