Mr. Dailey "Gene" Rockwell, 74, of Paw Paw, WV, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at his home. Born on August 18, 1937 at Paw Paw, WV, he was the son of the late Perry and Hazel Rockwell. He attended Paw Paw High School before joining the United States Navy in 1956. Mr. Rockwell retired honorably from the Navy in 1975. He also served as a base police officer at NAS Coronado Island, CA until 1991, when he returned to Paw Paw to enjoy his retirement. Mr. Rockwell was a proud member of the Paw Paw Church of Christ, was an active member of Harley Bohrer American Legion Post #128 in Paw Paw, and was former vice-commander of that post. He was a passionate outdoorsman and enjoyed a variety of sporting events. On March 16, 1974, he married Mary Maxcine Grimes Rockwell in Coronado, CA. Surviving in addition to his wife are - One brother - Wade Rockwell of Mechanicsburg, PA One sister - Clara Louise Courtney of Great Cacapon, WV One daughter - Suzanne Butler of Damascus, MD One grandson - Braxton Butler of Damascus, MD And several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by a brother, Perry "Wink" Rockwell of Danville, CA. The family will receive friends at the Kimble Funeral Home in Paw Paw, WV from 2:00 until 4:00 PM Sunday, September 4. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 5 at the Paw Paw Church of Christ with Evangelist Richard J. White officiating. Interment will follow at the Woodrow Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by American Legion Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard. A reception will be held following the services at the American Legion in Paw Paw. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Paw Paw Church of Christ Youth Group.
