Mr. Charles "Peanut" Thompson, 71, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2010 at the UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. He was born September 16, 1939 at Franklin, West Virginia and was the son of the late Jesse Preston Thompson and Lena May Rader Thompson. Known to many as the proprietor of Peanut's Swap Shop, he also had worked at the Bridgewater Celanese Plant and Packaging Corporation in Harrisonburg. Peanut was employed at Hanover Shoe Company for fifteen years, at Kline Motor Sales and Dahmer's. When the IGA Foodliner opened its doors in Franklin, Peanut was the first assistant to Art Thomas. He was former owner and operator of The Korner Shop ("Peanut's") and managed several rental properties. Quite the entrepreneur, his most recent accomplishment was Peanut's Treasures, which he operated from his homeplace on High Street in Franklin. Peanut was a member of Christ Central Community Church, the Pendleton County Historical Society and the Sons of the Confederacy. He enjoyed fishing, and had a passion for genealogy, local history, antiques and collectibles. His love for people made him a great storyteller. Most of all, he adored his grandchildren. On July 29, 1964, he married Jamie Lou Cayton Thompson, who survives. Also surviving are - One daughter - Julie A. (& her husband, Bobby) Evick of Franklin, WV One son - Craig E. Thompson of Brandywine, WV One sister - Bonnie Brant of Cumberland, MD One brother - Jerry Thompson of Staunton, VA And seven grandchildren - Justin Shreve Matthew Thompson Caitlyn Thompson Jacob Thompson Preston Evick Grant Evick Natalie Evick He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jesse Thompson, Jr. and also his brother, Robert "Sonny" Thompson. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Living Faith Church near Franklin with Pastor Sam Harper officiating.
