Charles Alfred Burns, 91, of Doe Hill, VA and formerly of Riverton, WV passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Augusta Nursing and Rehab at Fishersville, VA.

Charles had resided at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Donna Burns since 2012.

Born August 15, 1927 at Riverton, he was a son of the late Don Lester Burns and Mary Catherine Kile Burns.

Charles was a Veteran, having served for two years in the U.S. Army during WWII, eighteen months of which was spent in Japan. He had worked in the shipyard, for a paint company and General Motors in Baltimore, MD and retired from Germany Valley Limestone in Riverton.  He had also cut timber and worked on farms and for the Cass Railroad.

On November 23, 1953, he married Ruby Virginia Bennett Burns, who preceded him in death on December 8, 2003.  Two sons, Steven Lee Burns and Dwight Albert Burns, six brothers, Richard, Tommy, Donald, Joseph, Carl and Paul Burns and four sisters, Pauline Bennett, Mildred Higgins, Sandra Burns and Jean Simpson also preceded him.

And a special great-granddaughter –

Alayna Nicole Burns of McDowell, VA

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, May 17, 2019 at Kimble Funeral Home, 80 South Main Street, Franklin, WV where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 18 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Sam Harper officiating. Military honors will be accorded by members of the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.

Interment will be at the Burns Family Cemetery at Riverton, WV.
