Charles Eugene Bates, 77, of Sugar Grove, West Virginia departed his earthly home unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at his home.

He was born October 11, 1946, the eldest of three children of Eugene W. Bates and Florence Bates.

On April 3, 1979 he married Virginia (Wildermuth) Bates.

Charley was the proverbial jack of all trades, able to tackle tasks of all sorts.  He was employed in Franklin, West Virginia at Bowman's Hardware and Pendleton County Library, as well as keeping his farm in good shape.

A graveside service will be held at the Bates Family Cemetery on the farm at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 8, 2024 with Pastor Jerry Smith officiating. (Note:  You cannot get to the farm from Doe Hill Road by following the auto generated GPS map.)
