Carroll Lee Sponaugle, 93, of Franklin, West Virginia, passed peacefully at home on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

He was born on March 10, 1933 in Franklin to the late Marvin L. Sponaugle and Argyle Wimer Sponaugle.

He attended Franklin High School and graduated from Augusta Military Academy.  He then married his first wife, Phyllis Crigler Sponaugle, the mother of his children, who survives.  He was a Veteran, having served in the United States Army and was co-owner and operator of Sponaugle Farms.  Carroll Lee worked at the family auto dealership, Pendleton Motor Sales, and lastly at Franklin Florist.

Also surviving are his wife of 50 years – Karen Sue Sponaugle

A sister – Loretta Homan of Shepherdstown, WV

A son – David Lee Sponaugle (Janet) of Nutter Fort, WV

Two daughters – Diane Paden (Jerry Snyder) of Brandywine, WV

Brenda Kaye Sponaugle (Mark Boyer) of Linville, VA

Grandchildren - Joshua Paden of Brandenburg, KY, Michelle Paden of Morgantown, WV and Jonathan Sponaugle of Nutter Fort, WV

Great-granddaughters – Madeline Paden and Morgan Paden of Brandenburg, KY

A brother-in-law – Danny Mallow (Linda) of Franklin

Sisters-in-law – Carol Dice and Rhonda Mallow (Carl Thompson) of Riverton, WV

Nephews – Brandon Mallow (Katie) and Justin Mallow of Franklin, WV and Devin Kimble

Niece - Melinda Kimble (D.J.) of Cabins, WV

Great-Nephews – Devin Kimble, Isaac Kimble, Landon, Colt and Owen Mallow

Lawrence Puffenbarger, who was like a son to him

And special friends - Dinah Mitchell and Todd Hartman

He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Marvin L. Sponaugle, Jr., and infant brother, Herbert Sponaugle; sisters, Lorraine Harper, Ruth Bowers, Betty Lou Sponaugle and Lucy Louise Sponaugle; a daughter, Stephanie Lynn Sponaugle; mother and father-in-law, Calvin and Irene Mallow; brother-in-law, Orlando Dice, Sr. and nephew, Orlando Dice, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 PM Sunday, June 7 at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 8 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jerry Smith officiating.

Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.
