Calvin "Coolie" Simmons, 90, of Franklin, WV passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

He was born September 2, 1925 at Moyers, West Virginia and was the son of the late Early Simmons and Gertrude Simmons Simmons.

Coolie was a truck driver for local sawmills, a heavy equipment operator and a scrap metal dealer.  He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Franklin Moose Lodge, the V.F.W. and the American Legion.

On January 21, 1949, he married Annabelle Virginia Alt Simmons, who preceded him in death on April 1, 1998.

He is survived by –

Carolyn "Bunny" Burkett (& husband, Mo) of Spotsylvania, VA

Frankie Church (& husband, Corky) of Midland, VA

Nancy Bridge of Yorktown, VA

Seven grandchildren

Ten great-grandchildren

And four great-great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by three brothers – Robert Simmons, Lloyd Simmons and Herbert Simmons and two sisters – Emma Mongold and Carrie Simmons.

Friends may call after 9:00 AM Tuesday at Kimble Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in the chapel of the Kimble Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Davis officiating.  Military services will be conducted at the funeral home by members of the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.

Interment will be at Wilson Chapel Cemetery, Upper Tract, West Virginia.
