Berlie C. Sponaugle, 93, of Franklin, WV passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.

He was born June 30, 1928 at Cherry Grove, West Virginia and was the son of the late Ray Sponaugle and Pauline Wimer Sponaugle.

Berlie was a 1947 graduate of Franklin High School and a Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He worked at and later owned Franklin Home Service, and over the years constructed many houses in the Franklin area. He enjoyed being a cattle and sheep farmer, and tapping the trees on the farm to produce maple syrup. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family. Berlie was a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church, was one of the Franklin Rescue Squad's first EMTs, served on the Franklin Town Council for 20+ years and was a member of the Franklin Ruritan Club.

On June 25, 1947, he married Dolly J. (Waggy) Sponaugle, who preceded him in death on December 2, 2020. A son, Jed Bradley Sponaugle, and two brothers, Olin Sponaugle and Merle Sponaugle, also predeceased him.

Melanie Sponaugle of Franklin

Two grandsons –
Adam Eckard (& Natasha Bowers) of Franklin
Mitchell Sponaugle (& Haley Wright) of Fairmont

Three great-granddaughters –
Brooklyn Aumann, Mercedes Aumann and Tatum Aumann

One great-grandson –
Greysen Eckard

And Baby Tharp, who will be arriving in July

One brother –
Gaylon Sponaugle (& Ruby) of Franklin

Numerous nieces and nephews

And his special canine companion –
Susie

Berlie's request was that his family commemorate his life privately with a graveside service and interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin with Pastor Mike Loudermilk officiating.

Friends may pay their respects on Friday, June 24 from 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.  The casket will be closed.
