Alfred George Dean, Jr., 83, of Marlinton, WV passed away Monday, April 2, 2018 at Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg.

Born July 23, 1934 at Marlinton, WV, he was the son of the late Alfred George Dean, Sr. and Ina Smith Dean.

Upon graduating from Marlinton High School in 1956, Alfred served in the U.S. Army until 1959, and then worked at Dean's Hardware Store in Mill Point, where he met his wife, Janet Rose Dean, whom he married on February 5, 1960.  From 1963 – 1967, he was employed by the WV Dept. of Highways.  He worked as Park Superintendent at Canaan Valley from 1967 - 1972, and then accepted the position of Golf Superintendent at Cacapon State Park in Berkeley Springs, continuing to work there for 10 years. In 1982, he became Park Superintendent at Valley Falls State Park in Fairmont.  From 1995 until his retirement in 1997, he worked at Kumbrabow State Forest in Randolph County.  Since retiring, he has actively worked with the Watoga State Park Foundation and served on the Pocahontas County Democratic Executive Committee.  Alfred was Methodist by faith and had a passion for gardening.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Kevin Dean (1963 - 1973) and William Edward "Bill" Dean (1966 - 2012).

The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Kimble Funeral Home, 18942 Seneca Trail, Marlinton where a funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday with Pastor Jim Murphy officiating.

Interment will be at Beaver Creek Cemetery where a military graveside service will be conducted by members of the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Guard.
