Alda Simmons Berlin, 90, of Lynchburg, Virginia, died May 23, 2019.

She was born July 11, 1928 in Pendleton County, and was the daughter of the late William Len Simmons and Eva Rader Simmons.

Mrs. Berlin attended public schools in Franklin, and was a first generation college graduate from Madison College, now James Madison University, where she earned her bachelor of science and master of science degrees in education.  She taught in Rockingham County, Virginia, at Quantico Marine Base and in Rapid City, South Dakota.

She and her husband lived in many interesting places prior to living in Lynchburg, Virginia, including Chicago, Illinois; Rapid City, South Dakota; Elizabeth, New Jersey; Satellite Beach, Florida and Cranford, New Jersey.

She enjoyed her family, and loved her old home and being able to return there all of her life.  She was even able to spend her 90th birthday at the farm last July.

She served as president of the Mount Zion Lutheran Preservation Society, her childhood church, and attended the annual homecoming there for more than 35 years.  She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynchburg, Virginia.

On June 30, 1961, she married James L. Berlin, who preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 21, 2019 at the Pitsenbarger Family Cemetery near Franklin.  Family and friends will be received at her old home following the service.
